Very crisp, clear and informative. Just what I needed, with useful suggestions for further reading, but as the price reflects, it's a very short text. At least it introduces Said, Fanon, Spivak, and a few other major figures in readable fashion. Would have loved to have more.

Dr. Troy Hicks (@hickstro) is a professor of Literacy and Technology at Central Michigan University and focuses his work on the teaching of writing, literacy and technology, and teacher education and professional development. A former middle school teacher, he collaborates with K - 12 colleagues and explores how they implement newer literacies in their classrooms. Hicks directs CMU's Chippewa River Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project, and he frequently conducts professional development workshops related to writing and technology. Hicks is author of the Heinemann titles Crafting Digital Writing (2013) and The Digital Writing Workshop (2009), as well as a co-author of Because Digital Writing Matters (Jossey-Bass, 2010) and Create, Compose, Connect! (Routledge/Eye on Education, 2014). He blogs at Digital Writing, Digital Teaching. In March 2011, Hicks was honored with CMU's Provost's Award for junior faculty who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in research and creative activity. Insightful Inquiry into Learning

Troy Hicks again brings his focus to the world of digital literacy, and the result is both an insider's look at how students are composing with multimodal tools, and how teachers can bring digital possibilities into the classroom. What's refreshing here is that Hicks takes an outside view of the work, offering analytical insights into the composing practices that appears to be going on with various projects, and then expanding those ideas into connections to literacy. This book is a fantastic resource that goes beyond the sharing of student work. It provides a model for how to look at the digital compositions of students, and make sense of the choices they are making. By doing so, teachers can then better guide the compositional practices of learners.

Amazing guide for Digital Writing

If you are a classroom teacher interested in using more digital writing in your class or extending your use, this book is probably for you. Mr. Hicks does an amazing job explaining how traditional elements of writing are manifest differently in digital formats. He keeps the focus on solid writing instruction, but explains clearly how digital texts have different features, a different form. He covers websites, blogs, wikis, audio, video and presentations. He's really a teacher's teacher, rather than a fool trying to convince you that "digital writing is where it's at!" (which is too much of what we see these days) He clearly thinks writing is where it's at, and then here's how you can teach writing effectively in digital formats.

Additionally, he makes clear connections to the Common Core, in case you need to justify why all your students are writing a blog this year. He clearly uses a lot of the tools he suggests.

His resources and suggestions are amazing and useful. His student examples are (mostly) inspiring.

P D V Marsh, BA (Hons), is a retired solicitor. He began his commercial career with the National Coal Board where he became their Chief Contracts Officer. He later held senior posts with AEI Limited and Standard Telephones and Cables Limited where, for four years, he was Project Manager for their Submarine Telephone Cable Division. He then joined George Wimpey Ltd and became a director of Wimpey Major Projects Ltd. His last post before retiring was as Contracts Manager for the Transportation Systems Division of Transmanche Link. Since retiring in 1990 he has run his own consultancy practice.

There has never been any doubt that the fighter arm had been pivotal in introduction of the unit emblems with the Luftwaffe. Since, however, the Luftwaffe developed no classification system to register or even monitor its emblems, the emblem motifs and the motivations behind their introduction were to a great degree lost following the collapse of the Third Reich. The Emblems of Jagdwaffe 1936-1945: A More Complete History's main objective is to offer a plausible theory on the emblems' motifs and origins, and to establish the very existence of some emblems. The centrepiece of the book is the artwork of more than 300 emblems restored to their former glory, a step beyond Karl Ries's groundbreaking design from the 1960s. The said artwork is complemented by 27 photographs and 12 scale-drawings that illustrate the emblem positions on the fighter aircraft in use by the Jagdwaffe between 1936 and 1945. The book is aimed at the enthusiasts and serious researchers alike irrespective of the age group.

The Jagdwaffe Emblem Bible

For his second edition of "Emblems of the Jagdwaffe 1936-1945" Sestanovic has listened carefully to the constructed criticism of his first edition. The result is what I can only describe as the 'Bible' of Jagdwaffe emblems. Sestanovic's deep knowledge and understanding of Germany's fighter arm can be found on every page of tis book. He very clearly and unambiguously points out and corrects many of the misconceptions of the past giving clear evidence for his revisions

Sestanovic begins his work with a helpful overview of the military and political circumstances into which the emblems were founded and then he gives a shorted potted but none-the-less useful history of the campaigns the Luftwaffe's fighter arm fought.

The book then covers first the fighter unit emblems or the Condor Legion moves onto Pre-War emblems and then to Jagdgruppe/Staffel units that existed during the early war period before moving to detail each of the full Jagdwaffe Geschwader during the main conflict. In each case each unit's emblem be it staffel gruppe or Geschwader is given a verbal description, a history and ancestral path including where known the person that designed or instigated the design. Next the period in which the emblem was employed and the aircraft types that carried the emblem, the approximate size of the emblem and lastly, and very importantly, on which part of the aircraft the emblem was applied. This is achieved by using a very clever coded guide system, the templates of which can be found at the rear of the book. The full colour renditions of each emblem can be found immediately after each Geschwader's section which is a great improvement on the 'block' of emblem pages found in the first edition. Also since the first edition Sestanovic has added to the number of emblems using correspondence and images received since the publication of the first edition.

I have personally checked a number of the book's emblem artwork against known and clear emblem photographs and can only applaud Sestanovic for his unswerving accuracy and attention to detail. His artwork is both clear and of a size at least three times bigger then that of the artwork in Ketley's new book "Luftwaffe Emblems". For scale modellers this, I am sure, will be big bonus. Lastly, at the end the book is a welcome selection of very clear and well produced period images of aircraft carrying some of the emblems previously discussed.

Highlights for me must be probably the best and fullest pre-war selection of emblems published so far. Second must be potted history of each unit and it's relation to past units and its subsequent evolution, whilst this information is available elsewhere such as Holm's website, having it in conjunction with the emblem is very helpful when trying to identify the unit of an image. Lastly must be the emblem artwork themselves easily the most accurate of any Luftwaffe book publish before or present.

This is a work of passion on the part of the author, a masterpiece of research and sheer hard work this book deserves a place on the shelf of every Luftwaffe enthusiast, scale modeller and collector. Simply the best reference book on the emblems of the Jagdwaffe yet produced.

An Indispensable guide to Luftwaffe emblems!

For those who are interested in the Luftwaffe, many are initially attracted by the unit emblems and colourful paint schemes that adorned the aircraft. Over the years since the end of the second world war, authors have attempted to document the emblems and insignia used by the individual units that made up the Luftwaffe. This was not an easy task as most of the Luftwaffe's records were destroyed during the final days of the war. What Sinisa Sestanovic has successfully achieved in my opinion with his Emblems of Jagdwaffe is to correct many of the errors and omissions of the previous works on the subject. This book covers the emblems displayed by the fighter squadrons of the Luftwaffe all the way from it's birth in the 1930's through the Spanish Civil war all the way up to the end of World War II. Each emblem is beautifully drawn in full colour with a detailed description on it's history and periods of usage including details of the instances when certain emblems were carried over from previous units to reformed or newly formed units. Whatever your reasons of interest in the Luftwaffe may be, whether it be accurate model building or serious Luftwaffe research this book alone will be an indispensable guide. With this book Sinisa Sestanovic has proven that he is a very thorough researcher and I eagerly await any further works that he writes on the subject. This book comes highly recommended and is written by an author who clearly knows his stuff. One to watch for the future!
