About the Author
Ruth Ann McEwen is Associate Dean of Accreditation and Administration and Professor of Accounting for the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University. She earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Management with a concentration in Accounting from the Georgia Institute of Technology and taught Financial Accounting at the Master's and Doctoral levels for more than 20 years. She is the author or co-author of more than 40 refereed articles and proceedings focusing on the usefulness of accounting information. She has published in such premier journals as The Accounting Review, Decision Sciences, Accounting Horizons, CPA Journal, International Journal of Accounting and the Journal of Business Ethics and is the author of "Earnings Per Share" and co-author of "Asset Retirement Obligations" published by Tax Management, Inc. In 1998, she presented a series of research papers to a joint seminar of the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board focusing on current financial reporting. From 2005 until 2008, Dean McEwen served as a consultant to the Financial Accounting Standards Board, authorized as a content expert to codify United States Generally Accepted Accounting Principles which comprises authoritative guidance for US corporate financial reporting. She also consults in areas of financial accounting and standards compliance. Dean McEwen has received numerous scholarly, teaching and research awards.

Just WOW!!

I found the first book in this set for free and figured why not. I'm so glad I decided to read it. I enjoyed it so much that buying the next two was a no brainer. I bought the boxed set which was a better deal than buying them separately, and it was totally worth the money. I truly enjoyed reading about the lives of all the characters and was actually sad that I'm now done. Ann has done a fabulous job at making the characters relatable and you just fall in love with how they all interact with each other!! Please go out and get yourself these books.

Love triangle that works!

This is fun, easy reading with a creative concept and well fleshed out characters. I was up all night reading this one. I don't normally like love triangles, but this one worked, and the heat-level made this a set I'll save for re-reads...when the mood strikes ;) The Davis twins are wonderful, and this is a great introduction to Ann Omasta's writing. I look forward to reading more!

The early history of life on our planet indicates that life existed on earth before the earth’s atmosphere contained free oxygen gas. The living cells must therefore have been fermenting cells then, and, as fossils show, they were undifferentiated single cells. Only when free oxygen appeared in the atmosphere - some billion years ago - did the higher development of life set in, to produce the plant and animal kingdoms from the fermenting, undifferentiated single cells. What the philosophers of life have called "Evolution cr�atrice" has been and is therefore the work of oxygen.

The reverse process, the dedifferentiation of life, takes place today in greatest amount before our eyes in cancer development, which is another expression for dedifferentiation. To be sure, cancer development takes place even in the presence of free oxygen gas in the atmosphere, but this oxygen may not penetrate in sufficient quantity into the growing body cells, or the respiratory apo-enzymes of the growing body cells may not be saturated with the active groups. In any case, during the cancer development the oxygen-respiration always falls, fermentation appears, and the highly differentiated cells are transformed to fermenting anaerobes, which have lost all their body functions and retain only the now useless property of growth. Thus, when respiration disappears, life does not disappear, but the meaning of life disappears, and what remains are growing machines that destroy the body in which they grow.
