There is a lot of advice in this book! Most of the helpful tips were easy to understand and implement. I also liked that this book covered the different phases in life that women are interacting with men. I felt that by covering the different relationships she was able to offer some well rounded and great advice. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I liked her writing style, which was not condemning in any way! I would recommend this book to any woman looking to improve her relationships with the men around her. I also would recommend any of her other book which are all helpful and well written!

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

I love that she tackled every subject dealing with love and relationships as a Christian. There were so many hard pills to swallow, but as I take in more living water, they go down easier.

The introductory chapter defines the main types of sedimentary rocks, their classification, and their economic significance. The author then goes on to describe standard field techniques and provides a comprehensive summary of the principal characteristics of sedimentary rocks. Additional chapters cover each of the main rock types and describe how to interpret rocks and their features in terms of depositional environments.

Superb introduction to sedimentary rocks and structures.

This book is one of the best introductions to sedimentary rocks and their structures that I have come across in 25 years.

It begins with a section on the structures found in sedimentary rocks. The diagrams are clear, concise, and very well explained. The photographs that go with them are among the best I've seen for demonstrating sedimentary structures. They are almost professional in their quality, and the features you are meant to see are actually visible in the photos (no 'eye of faith' required, unlike some other textbooks).

The rest of the book is divided into chapters dealing with each group of sedimentary rocks in turn. Ironstones, conglomerates, evaporites, limestones: you name it, it's in there. Again, the diagrams and photographs are faultless.

Finally, the book finishes with a section on how to interpret sedimentary structures in the field.

If only this book had been available when I was an undergraduate! I would thoroughly recommend this book to any undergraduate (or even post-graduate) geology student as the first thing to pack in their bag before setting off on field work.

As a final thought for geology students, the University of Southampton (where Dr. Stow works) has a superb website on the geology of the south coast of England. If you like the book, you'll love the website.

Experienced Professional Geologist - Mining Company

This is the best geological field book of its type I have ever seen. The layout and illustrations are quite simply superb. As a field guide for the undergraduate, post graduate and professional geologist it is a must have. I only wish their were equivalent books available for igneous, volcanic and metamorphic rocks. No doubt someone will replicate the standard of this book and produce these titles. I await their arrival eagerly.

Packed with beautiful color photos. Great field resource

Haven't taken it out in the field, although it's obviously an excellent resource for the amateur or professional geologist. I like the layout of this edition rather than the 2011 edition by Tucker. The chapters are organized by sedimentary rock type in this edition by Stow, which makes it easy to quickly look things up, e.g. the name of that crinkly carbonate texture while standing at the outcrop.
The book arrived in new condition, as described. I will not forget to put this in the bag next time I'm out in the field.

Good Way to Learn the Code.

I like the learning program Dr. Parks presents in this series of CDs for learning Morse Code. It is easy to listen to and work on as I follow the lessons. She has broken the letters and characters into blocks of three (such as A, Z and 4 in one block, Y, F and 6 in another, and so on) and you sequentially work on learning the code characters in each block, with periodic reviews over all that you have practiced so far.

The important part, of course, is to stay with it. But by listening and by tapping out or using a key to sound out the characters you are learning, bit by bit you'll get the code down. As you proceed, you will be able to code and decode all in your head, if you wish. This avoids the need to remember a chart or diagram and makes for quicker learning and longer retention, as well a way to increase speed.

It works for me and I'm just learning it in my sixth decade.

Definitely recommend this course. I had tried several other avenues and courses on learning CW, but this CD set was formatted so much better than the rest. I like how they start with 2 letters and a number in one block, and then gradually move you into a few symbols and pro-signs. Not to mention they are very encouraging. About the 3rd block of the course, it starts to seem a little overwhelming but the narrator is constantly reassuring and reaffirming that you are, in fact learning. Even though you don't have to have a practice oscillator for this course, I would highly recommend getting one, so that you can generate code during these learning blocks.
If you decide to purchase this, you won't be disappointed. Just stick with it and don't be afraid to put it down for a day or two if it seems overwhelming. Take your time, let it soak in, and then come back to it.

Really great Morse Code course

Really great Morse Code course. I've been trying to learn the code on and off for 40 years. This finally nailed it for me. Jessica is tremendous! Now, I go back to the "other" old courses and can listen along just fine. Dr. Parks' explanations and psychology-based approach is very understandable and useful. See, you already know the names of the letters. Now, you just need to learn a second name for each one, kind of like we do when we learn French. It's fun. Do it!

Bishop Guy Gaucher is editor of The Complete Works of St. Therese. He lives in Avon, France.

Groeschel is professor of pastoral psychology at St. Joseph's Seminary in New York. He is the Director for the Office of Spiritual Development of the archdiocese of New York, he is also a founding member of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal. He is the founder of Trinity Retreat, a center of prayer and study for the clergy.

Tuberculosis: Not Coated With Sugar

The Passion of Therese of Lisieux has two objectives: to follow as closely as possible, and in chronological order, Therese's life during its final six months; and, to use authentic documentation to sketch a portrait of her in the face of death. A detailed description of Therese's medical condition and great suffering from tuberculosis dominates the first portion of the book. The second tries to portray her sanctity in all of its human reality. The book "does not therefore contain theological or spiritual reflections."

Gary Gaucher has done a remarkable job. As Fr. Benedict Groeschel writes in the Introduction: "Ponder her life, her words, her deeds and her death and you will see that she has changed you." As Gaucher, a Carmelite and bishop in the diocese that includes Lisieux, writes: Therese's "'little doctrine' can no longer be said to be the pious reflections of a meek and mild person who coated everything she touched with sugar."

Though this is an important and insightful book about Therese, a Doctor of the Catholic Church, it is not the place to start. Read Story of a Soul before reading this book. Those who have read at least the Story of a Soul will gain much insight and appreciation of the saint and her sufferings by reading The Passion of Therese of Liseux, but this book will probably be wasted on or of little interest to others.

Excellent read- just a few issues

This is an excellent read about St. Therese's last year or so on earth, and how her soul developed as her body crumbled.

My only complaint with this book is that the author's interpretation of St. Therese is clearly colored by some of the post-Vatican II errors in Catholicism in general and about Therese in particular. This is particularly true when it comes to St. Therese's desire to save souls, something the author writes was "in the language of her day". He diminishes or discounts, often chalking it up to errors in the Catholicism "of her day" (his unfortunate tendency to almost apologize for Therese when quoting language or traits about her that are not popular by modern standards is the most annoying part of this book) her strong evangelistic fervor- not only bringing souls to God because He loves us so, but also to save them from Hell. St. Therese's letters, her poems, her autobiography, and indeed her whole life's message show that she firmly believed in this constant teaching of the Church- Christ died on the Cross to save our souls. This lack of belief in the necessity of evangelism for the purpose of salvation shows too when he discusses St. Therese, St. John of the Cross, and the Gospels.

He also says in his comments that most Catholics in that day were "counting their works" and storing up their merit. While it is true that Jansenism was still affecting Catholic faith and practice, St. Therese speaks glowingly in both her letters and her autobiography about her family's teaching her to make small sacrifices by the use of, among other things, the sacrifice beads and her book for her First Communion. She says in her letters that this training was part of the ground of her vocation. This being the case, I don't think it's correct to say that she was "freed" from this climate, as the author says, just because St. Therese no longer needed those aids. She was also no longer a child! He seems to have placed some of the Protestant views on the Catholic faith into this book.

These errors are why I cannot give the book four or five stars, because the fervor of St. Therese to save souls and her views on sacrifice and redemptive suffering are too essential to her message to feel that any book about her is accurate when those views are weakened or diminished. Despite this, it is definately a must-read for any lover of the saint and will enhance your understanding of and love for St. Therese.

Too many alternative viewpoints or a great story?

I thought this book was beautiful, both in the dreamlike quality of the writing and rich pictures that vividly depicts the scene captured in snapshots frame don eery other page. However, granting this boy a vision and warning dream seems like stretching the alternative view that doens't glorify Chirstopher Columbus and instead focuses on how his arrival killed off the people with diseases andenslaved them. Perhaps I have been too saturated with this type of view so that the alternatives are just as annoying as the tradition "Columbus was wonderful" stories. Perhaps just telling a more middle line truth would be more helpful. Otherwise, the book is blessed with Yolen's storytelling talent, a touching story, and beautiful illustrations.
